Fantastic Four #230 arrived in May 1981, one of the many mid-run issues published during the title's long Bronze Age stretch under Marvel. The book falls within the period when John Byrne was serving as principal penciller on the series, working from scripts most likely by Bill Mantlo, before Byrne assumed full writing and art control a few issues later beginning with #232. Joe Sinnott's inks were a frequent presence on the title through this era, lending the book's visuals continuity with the classic Lee-Kirby-Sinnott look that defined the series for over a decade prior.
As a numbered installment deep into a series with hundreds of issues, #230 carries no first appearance, no death, and no landmark creative changeover of its own; those distinctions belong to surrounding issues rather than this one. Demand for the book is accordingly modest and tracks general reader interest in the Byrne-adjacent run rather than any specific event within these pages. It circulates today mainly as a piece of a longer collecting project rather than as a standalone target.
Collectors most likely to seek this issue are those assembling a run of Fantastic Four through the Byrne years, completionists filling gaps in Bronze Age Marvel, or readers drawn to the pre-#232 buildup toward Byrne's celebrated writer-artist tenure. It trades as a common, affordable book in raw grades, with high-grade certified copies commanding a modest premium mainly for condition scarcity rather than content, since even top-graded slabs of ordinary issues from this period see only limited competition.
