X-Statix #9 is a standalone chapter of the acclaimed Peter Milligan/Mike Allred run that grew out of their reinvention of X-Force, spotlighting Dead Girl amid the ensemble of Anarchist, Doop, Orphan, Phat, El Guapo and Venus Dee Milo. The series is remembered less for first appearances than for its satirical take on celebrity, media and the disposability of super-teams, rendered in Allred's clean pop-art line and Laura Allred's saturated color. This particular issue functions as a self-contained character piece rather than a plot-driving installment of the wider arc.

The book sits squarely in the collected but non-key tier of an early-2000s Marvel title with a devoted but relatively small following. Buyers are principally run collectors and Allred enthusiasts; the practical market is a raw one, where low- and mid-grade copies trade at little more than back-issue rates and grade differences barely register in price. The high-grade certified market is where scarcity of pristine survivors and the creators' cachet generate a modest multiple, making a top-census slab the only version likely to reward a targeted purchase.
