Cover shows bright, glossy color with sharp corners and no visible creases or spine stress. There is a faint circular reflection near the sword blade that appears to be light glare from the protective sleeve rather than a defect. The book is stored in a plastic bag/sleeve, which limits full assessment; interior pages and back cover were not visible or assessed. Based on the visible front cover alone, this appears to be a high-grade copy with minimal handling wear.

Marvel relaunched its non-team in March 2001 with Kurt Busiek and Erik Larsen scripting and Larsen supplying covers; issue four, cover-dated the same month as the debut in Marvel's accelerated shipping pattern, brings the Pluto storyline to a head as the legions of the dead press into the mortal world and the truth behind Valkyrie's host body, Barbara Denton Norriss, is laid out. Ron Frenz pencils with Scott Hanna inking, giving the issue a deliberately classicist look that matches the run's affectionate return to the Doctor Strange, Hulk, Namor and Silver Surfer configuration of the 1970s title. Supporting players Nighthawk, Hellcat, Enchantress, Lorelei and the winged horse Aragorn round out a cast drawn straight from the Steve Englehart era, and the Valkyrie material makes this the continuity-heavy installment of the opening arc.

Demand is driven almost entirely by run collectors and by readers following the Busiek and Larsen partnership, not by speculation. Print runs were healthy for 2001 and copies remain plentiful in high grade, so raw examples move in dollar-bin and set-lot territory, with complete twelve-issue runs trading as a single unit far more often than individual mid-run issues. Certification is rare enough that no meaningful 9.8 market has formed; where slabs of comparable early-2000s Marvel mid-run issues do appear, they clear at a level set by grading and shipping costs rather than by scarcity of the book itself.

The realistic buyer is a Defenders completist, a Busiek or Larsen follower, or a dealer assembling reading sets, and that audience is price-sensitive. Low- and mid-grade copies are functionally interchangeable at this level and sell as filler; only sharp, well-centered copies with clean spines justify any premium, and even then the ceiling is modest. Anyone considering submission should weigh fees against a thin certified market, while collectors are better served buying the full run in one transaction than chasing single issues.
