// Archive commentary
Fantastic Four #329 (August 1989, Marvel Comics) appeared during Steve Englehart's run as writer, with pencils by Keith Pollard, in a period when the team's roster had shifted following Reed Richards and Sue Storm's temporary departure from active duty. Ben Grimm's Thing, Johnny Storm's Human Torch, and Sharon Ventura's She-Thing carried much of the book's action during this stretch, as the series worked through street-level plotting and lineup changes rather than any single landmark event. The issue sits comfortably in the middle of a long, continuously numbered run that by this point had passed the 300-issue mark, reflecting Marvel's flagship title in a transitional, less-heralded creative period compared to the Lee/Kirby or Byrne years that bookend it.
As a direct-edition Copper Age issue with no first appearance, death, or other widely cited event, it has never registered meaningful demand beyond routine collector interest in completing the run. It circulates mostly through bulk lots, dollar bins, and online marketplace listings rather than as a standalone target purchase, and grading submissions for it are infrequent since the print run was large and the content unremarkable to the broader key-issue market. Copper Age Marvel books of this type are plentiful in near-mint condition, having been handled carefully by speculator-era buyers, which keeps high-grade raw and slabbed copies available without commanding premiums.
Collectors most likely to seek this issue are Fantastic Four run-completists filling gaps in a full-series collection rather than character or key-issue speculators. Across grades it trades cheaply in raw form and only modestly higher when certified, since a clean 9.8 slab reflects certification and preservation costs more than any inherent scarcity or narrative importance. It functions best as inexpensive filler for long-box or bound-run collections of the title's late-1980s stretch.
