AMAZING ADVENTURES #6

This pre-1977 10-cent Atlas/Marvel cover shows a prominent vertical crease running from the top edge down through the logo, along with a smaller tear at the top edge above 'AMAZING.' A horizontal stress crease crosses the monster's midsection, and there is noticeable corner wear/rounding at the top left and general edge wear along the borders. Overall surface shows mild waviness and toning consistent with age, with color remaining bright despite the creasing. Interior pages and back cover were not visible in this photo and were not assessed.

Amazing Adventures #6 (cover-dated October 1961) closed out the short-lived Volume 1 run of Marvel's Atlas-era anthology title, which folded science-fiction and fantasy short stories in the mold of the company's late-1950s monster books. The title was retooled the following issue as Amazing Adult Fantasy, part of Stan Lee's ongoing experimentation with anthology formats in the months immediately preceding the debut of Fantastic Four #1 and the start of the Marvel Age of superheroes. The book reflects the transitional character of pre-hero Marvel: unrelated short stories with twist endings, drawn by the era's rotating stable of Atlas/Marvel artists, rather than any continuing feature or costumed character.

Demand for the issue is modest and concentrated in the low-to-mid grade range, where certified population is heaviest and sales activity is most consistent; the jump in fair market value at the 7.0 grade point reflects a small but real premium collectors place on notably better-preserved copies of this scarce anthology run. Activity thins dramatically above 7.5, where population counts drop and sales records disappear entirely, indicating that high-grade copies rarely reach the open market rather than that demand is absent. Interest in the book is driven less by any single story or character and more by its place in the Atlas-to-Marvel continuum and by any period Silver Age art contributions it carries.

The book suits Silver Age completists tracking the pre-superhero Marvel anthology titles and collectors assembling full runs of Amazing Adventures and its successor Amazing Adult Fantasy. Lower grades trade as affordable, readily available filler for such runs, while mid-grade copies see steady, if unspectacular, turnover. Near-top and unrepresented top grades are effectively unproven in the marketplace; any example approaching or exceeding the current census ceiling would be expected to command a substantial premium simply on the basis of rarity, though actual sales at that level remain to be established.
