// Condition analysis
Cover shows sharp corners and strong color gloss with no visible creases or spine stress. A small dark mark/scuff is visible on Hawkeye's chest that appears to be a minor surface blemish or ink flaw rather than damage. Edges appear clean with no chipping, and the direct-edition Spider-Man head logo box is crisp and undamaged. The book is protected in a plastic sleeve; interior pages and back cover were not assessed.

// Archive commentary
Solo Avengers launched in 1987 as an anthology-style ongoing built around Hawkeye lead stories paired with rotating backup features spotlighting other Avengers, part of Marvel's late-1980s push to give team members individual spotlight vehicles outside the flagship Avengers title. Issue #4, cover-dated March 1988, continues that format with a Hawkeye-led story and a backup showcasing another roster member, typical of the series' structure before it was retitled Avengers Spotlight beginning with issue #21. The book carries no first appearances, deaths, or landmark creative milestones that collectors or price guides single out.
Market activity reflects a minor, low-print-run Copper Age title with a thin certified population and sparse sales history. The handful of recorded 9.4-9.8 sales show pricing climbing quickly at the top of the grade scale, a pattern common to books with small census counts where a few high-grade slabs set the market rather than sustained demand. Outside of near-pristine certified copies, raw examples move as inexpensive back-issue-bin material with negligible grade-to-grade price separation in the low-to-mid range.
This is a book for series completists, Hawkeye character collectors, and Avengers spotlight-run enthusiasts rather than a speculative or investment-grade key. Raw copies in low and mid grades trade cheaply and are readily available; the meaningful value differential only appears at the CGC 9.8 tier, where scarcity of top-census copies, not narrative significance, drives the premium.
