Solo Avengers launched in 1987 as an anthology-style ongoing built around Hawkeye lead stories paired with rotating backup features spotlighting other Avengers, part of Marvel's late-1980s push to give team members individual spotlight vehicles outside the flagship Avengers title. Issue #4, cover-dated March 1988, continues that format with a Hawkeye-led story and a backup showcasing another roster member, typical of the series' structure before it was retitled Avengers Spotlight beginning with issue #21.
