Action Comics #359 arrived in February 1968 as part of DC's long-running Superman anthology title, produced during the studio-era stewardship of editor Mort Weisinger. The book reflects the house style of the period: a Curt Swan pencil job, likely inked by George Klein, wrapped around a self-contained Superman adventure typical of the writing stable then working under Weisinger, including Leo Dorfman and Otto Binder. It carries no first appearance, origin, or death of note, and is best understood as a representative, well-crafted example of the Silver Age Superman machine rather than a storyline the character's mythology hinges on.
The market data reflects that assessment. Pricing across the mid grades is notably flat, with 3.0 through 6.0 copies all clustering near the same modest value, and even near-mint copies in the 9.0-9.2 range command only modest three-figure sums. Sales volume is present but thin at nearly every grade, and no meaningful pricing has stabilized at the very top of the census despite a handful of recorded 9.8 sales. This is consistent with a book whose collector base is largely completists working through the Action Comics run rather than speculators chasing a key.
This issue trades as a run-filler: attractive to Superman and Silver Age DC collectors assembling long stretches of Action Comics, and to CGC census chasers pursuing the handful of top-graded slabs, but with little crossover appeal beyond that audience. Lower and mid-grade raw copies move steadily and cheaply through back-issue bins and online lots, while the rare 9.6-9.8 slab commands a real premium purely on scarcity rather than narrative importance, making it a book whose top-end value is driven almost entirely by census rarity rather than story significance.
