Fantastic Four #211 (Marvel, October 1979) arrived during John Byrne's formative run as penciler on the title, working from Marv Wolfman's scripts, and introduced Terrax the Tamer, a new herald recruited by Galactus. The issue sits within the celebrated Byrne-illustrated stretch of the series that would soon see Byrne take over writing duties outright, and it marks one of the character-building highlights of that transitional period, expanding the Galactus mythos with a herald whose geokinetic powers and antagonistic relationship with his master distinguished him from Silver Surfer and later heralds.
Market data shows a book that trades as a solid but unspectacular Bronze Age issue: raw and low-grade copies move for modest sums reflecting ample surviving supply, while the value curve steepens sharply only at the top of the census, with CGC 9.8 copies commanding a substantial premium over 9.6 and below. This kind of jump—flat pricing through the mid grades followed by a multiple increase at the top—is typical of a book bought mainly by character-first-appearance completists and Fantastic Four/Byrne-run specialists rather than broad speculative demand.
Collecting interest centers on two overlapping audiences: Fantastic Four and Galactus-mythology collectors assembling herald first appearances, and John Byrne art collectors filling out his early Marvel work before his writer-artist tenure began. Raw copies in low and mid grades are readily available and inexpensive, making the book an accessible entry point, while pristine 9.8 slabs are comparatively scarce and see the bulk of collector competition, commanding a price disproportionate to the rest of the grade curve.
