// Archive commentary
Fantastic Four #212 (November 1979) arrived during the transitional period when John Byrne was handling pencils under writer Marv Wolfman, inked by Joe Sinnott, continuing the arc introducing Terrax the Tamer, one of Galactus's Heralds, who had debuted in the preceding issue. The book falls in the run just before Byrne assumed full writing and art control of the title in the early 1980s, a stretch now regarded as a high point of the series' Bronze Age output, though this particular issue functions as a middle chapter rather than a defining moment for any character.
Market activity is thin, with only isolated certified sales recorded across the grade spectrum and no CGC 9.8 examples having reached the market. Demand is driven primarily by Byrne-era Fantastic Four completists and Terrax character collectors rather than by any first-appearance or landmark-issue premium, keeping the book firmly in the affordable range for common Bronze Age Marvel product. Newsstand copies from this era are plentiful, and grade-to-grade price movement is modest until the highest certified tiers, where scarcity of submissions creates outsized jumps.
This issue suits collectors building a complete run of the Wolfman/Byrne Fantastic Four rather than speculators chasing a specific key. Raw copies in low and mid grades trade cheaply and are readily available, while a high-grade CGC 9.8 would command a real premium purely on condition rarity rather than content, since no such copy has yet been certified. Long-term interest tracks the broader appreciation of Byrne's Fantastic Four work rather than any independent demand for this issue.
