Steve Englehart and Al Milgrom launched the West Coast Avengers as Marvel's first ongoing Avengers spin-off in 1985, with Hawkeye leading Mockingbird, Tigra, Wonder Man, and the Iron Man of the period from a Los Angeles compound. The fifth issue, "Ins and Outs!," pushes the young series toward Marvel's monster corner: the team's investigation of the Cat People leads them to Jack Russell, and the Werewolf by Night bursts loose in a sequence that also brings in Michael Morbius, then working on a cure for Russell's condition. Running subplots carry weight for the series' larger arc, including Hank Pym's contact from Ultron and Firebird's search for information on the Darkhold in her pursuit of Master Pandemonium, the villain Englehart and Milgrom had introduced one issue earlier. No first appearance or origin lands here, but the issue sits at the point where the title established the horror-adjacent, continuity-dense tone that defined Englehart's run.

Market behavior follows the pattern for mid-run Copper Age Marvel: print runs were large, copies are plentiful in high grade, and demand is driven by run collectors rather than speculators. Graded sales records for this issue are sparse, and the certified population is small simply because few owners see a reason to submit a non-key book from 1986. What support the issue does have comes from character crossover interest — Werewolf by Night and Morbius both have modern screen exposure, and West Coast Avengers cast members have surfaced in Marvel television projects, which periodically lifts attention across the whole series. That interest tends to concentrate on the genuine keys of the run, leaving this issue to trade on completist demand.

Buyers are principally collectors assembling the 1985-1989 series intact, Werewolf by Night and Morbius character collectors, and dealers filling bins. Raw copies are readily available and trade at bulk levels across low and mid grades, with little spread between a well-worn copy and a solid mid-grade one; the practical premium begins only at strict Near Mint and above, where certification cost sets the effective floor and a top-grade slab commands a multiple unrelated to the raw market. Newsstand and direct-market copies circulate side by side without meaningful separation at this level, so grade and eye appeal, not distribution channel, determine where a copy lands.
