Star Wars: Republic #51 is part of Dark Horse Comics' long-running ongoing Star Wars series, which was rebranded from Star Wars to Star Wars: Republic in 2002 to better reflect its focus on the prequel-trilogy era of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order. By this point the series was firmly established as the flagship Star Wars comic, written by John Ostrander with art by Jan Duursema, the creative team most closely associated with the title's Clone Wars-adjacent storytelling. Issue #51 falls within the series' middle stretch, continuing serialized adventures featuring Jedi such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker as the Republic slides toward the events of Attack of the Clones and beyond.
