Solo Avengers launched in December 1987 as Marvel's split-format showcase, pairing a continuing Hawkeye serial with rotating back-up features starring other Avengers. This May 1988 installment carries "Algeria is for Archers," scripted by Tom DeFalco with pencils by Mark Bright, in which Clint Barton buys his freedom from the French government by hunting a nuclear warhead alongside the French hero Le Peregrine, running up against the Albert Malik incarnation of the Red Skull and the Sandman. The issue arrives mid-arc in the DeFalco/Bright run that reshaped Hawkeye's backstory earlier in the series, and the second feature turns the spotlight on the Falcon and Redwing. The book contains no first appearance, origin, or death, and the series' most tracked issues remain the Trick Shot debut in the first issue and the Amanda Conner back-up several issues later.

Market behavior here is that of a well-distributed late-1980s Marvel title printed in quantity and rarely submitted for certification. Sales data is sparse rather than strong: the surrounding run shows only a handful of recorded certified transactions across the entire series, and raw copies circulate mainly as dealer stock, convention wall filler, and run-completion pieces. Demand drivers are secondary and character-based — Hawkeye's continued screen profile keeps casual attention on the title, and Red Skull and Falcon content adds marginal search traffic — but none of that has translated into a distinct price for this specific number. Grading cost exceeds the value of any copy below the top of the census, which is precisely why high-grade certified examples are scarce enough to command a disproportionate premium relative to raw copies.

Buyers divide into two clean groups. The larger group is run collectors and Hawkeye completists assembling the twenty-issue Solo Avengers stretch before the Avengers Spotlight retitling; they buy raw, buy cheaply, and are indifferent to a point or two of grade, which keeps the low and mid brackets compressed within a couple of dollars of each other. The smaller group is registry-minded and condition-focused, chasing census-topping copies of unloved Copper Age issues, and it is that thin bidding pool that sets the certified figure. Sellers should expect this issue to move fastest inside a run lot or as part of a Hawkeye-themed grouping, and should treat any single high-grade certified result as an isolated data point rather than a trend. The separately distributed Mark Jewelers insert version is the one configuration of this issue with a genuinely different collector base.
