Cover-dated September 1993 and scripted by Roy Thomas with pencils by Dave Ross and inks by Tim Dzon, Avengers West Coast #98 opens "Dying To Get Out!", a three-part story in which the demon Satannish and the Hangman strike a bargain: the Hangman seeks the return of his soul, and Satannish grants him a Lethal Legion assembled from revived killers, among them Axe of Violence, Coldsteel, Cyana, and Zyklon. U.S. Agent is singled out first, and the supernatural framing sits comfortably in Thomas's long-running interest in Marvel's occult corners, carried over from his earlier work with the Hangman and Satannish. The issue lands in the final stretch of the title, which ran only four more numbers before the team was dissolved and reorganized into Force Works, making it a late-period entry rather than a foundational one.

Market profile here is that of a common late-run Marvel from the highest-print-run period in the industry's history. Copies are plentiful in dealer stock and in collection break-ups, graded submissions are effectively absent from the census, and there is no character or first-appearance hook of the kind that lifted West Coast Avengers #45 during the WandaVision cycle. Demand is set-completion demand: buyers finishing the 102-issue run, U.S. Agent and Scarlet Witch readers filling in continuity, and Roy Thomas completists. That produces steady but very low turnover, with pricing driven by shipping economics as much as by the book itself, which is why raw copies across a wide condition band converge on nearly the same number.

Collecting outlook is stable rather than appreciating. The practical trade is in lots and short runs, where #98 travels alongside #97 and #99 as a complete arc and commands a small premium over singles for that reason. High-grade certification is a specialist proposition: the small number of slabs that exist owe their value chiefly to the grading cost embedded in them, and a submission today would not be justified on resale grounds. For an archive, the book's role is as run-filler with modest upside should the Lethal Legion or the Hangman receive screen attention, which would move the raw market first and only later the thin certified tier.
