Cover-dated October 1989, this is the third and final chapter of "That Which Endures," written, penciled, and inked by John Byrne during his extended tenure on the California team. The story resolves a plot in which an ancient adaptive intelligence has subverted the Scarlet Witch and She-Hulk and taken Captain America captive, leaving the Vision, Hawkeye, and Mockingbird to mount a rescue alongside the Great Lakes Avengers, the deliberately unglamorous Midwest squad Hawkeye had taken under his wing three issues earlier. Bob Sharen colored and Bill Oakley lettered, under editor Howard Mackie. The arc also sets up the revival of the original Human Torch in the following issue, making this a connective piece in one of the more consequential runs the title had.

Commercially the issue sits in the broad middle of the Copper Age market: print runs were still large, direct-edition copies are plentiful, and raw examples circulate freely in dealer boxes and bulk lots rather than as standalone offerings. What demand exists is driven by two collector groups: Byrne completists, who pursue his solo-credit issues on the run, and buyers assembling Great Lakes Avengers appearances, a niche that firmed up after the team's screen and prose exposure and after Squirrel Girl-adjacent interest broadened attention to Marvel's comedic corners. Neither driver has produced the kind of repeat auction record that anchors a price with precision, and the certified population at the top of the scale remains small enough that a single strong result can move the reported average.

For the archive, this trades as a run book with a modest specialty premium rather than as a key. Low-grade copies have essentially reader value and are best moved in runs or as fill for a #47-50 set; mid-grade copies clear quickly at guide-adjacent money to collectors completing the Byrne stretch. The meaningful spread is at the top: because few owners have found it worth submitting, high-end certified copies are scarce relative to how common the book itself is, and buyers pursuing registry-style runs of the title pay accordingly.
