World's Finest Comics #173, cover-dated February 1968, sits in the late Silver Age run of DC's flagship Superman-and-Batman team-up title. The issue is remembered by collectors for its imaginary story pairing the boyhood and next-generation versions of the two heroes, an idea that fed into DC's later Super-Sons concept. As a World's Finest issue it carries the enduring appeal of the Superman/Batman partnership, the single most durable team pairing in the DC catalog, and lands in the era just before Neal Adams reshaped the book's covers.
Demand for this issue is driven by run collectors completing the long World's Finest series and by fans of the Superman-and-Batman dynamic rather than by first-appearance speculation. The certified population is healthy through the mid grades and thins meaningfully at the top, where high-grade copies clear a clear premium over the mid-tier. Sales data show a soft, flat curve from Very Good through Fine and then a sharp climb into Near Mint and better, a pattern typical of a widely printed late-1960s DC book that was not systematically preserved in high grade.
Across grades this trades as an accessible collector book: low- and mid-grade copies are inexpensive filler for set builders, while the interest and money concentrate at the top of the census where survivors are comparatively scarce. Buyers are primarily World's Finest completists and Silver Age DC enthusiasts; the entry cost is low, but strong Near Mint and better examples reward patience given how few reach the census ceiling.
