This is a modern facsimile reprint (part of the 'Bad 1950s EC Comics!' Gladstone reprint line) of the original 1955 EC title Valor #1, identifiable by the modern trade dress banner and non-period cover price ($2.50/$3.65 Canada). The cover shows sharp, unblunted corners, strong original gloss, and no visible creases, spine stress, or color breaking. Edges appear clean with no chipping or wear evident in this photo. Interior and back cover were not assessed, so grade is estimated from front-cover evidence only.

Valor #1 launched the solo series built around Lar Gand, the Daxamite long known to Legion readers as Mon-El, recast for the post-Crisis twentieth century under the Valor name. Robert Loren Fleming scripted, with pencils and cover art from Mark Bright and inks by Al Gordon, and the issue was slotted into the publishing program surrounding Eclipso: The Darkness Within, which supplies both Eclipso and his host Bruce Gordon. Superman, Lex Luthor II, and the Matrix Supergirl also figure in the setup, tying the new title into the Superman family of books at a moment when DC was reorganizing its cosmic continuity ahead of Zero Hour.

The market profile is that of a well-distributed early-1990s DC first issue: print runs were large, surviving copies are plentiful in high grade, and the title never developed the speculative following attached to the Legion books proper. Sales data reflects that, with raw copies changing hands as low-dollar back-issue stock and certified examples appearing only sporadically, largely from registry-minded Legion completists rather than investors. Demand is driven by the Eclipso crossover connection and by collectors assembling the Lar Gand character run, not by first-appearance scarcity.

Buyers here are set builders and Legion of Super-Heroes specialists, and the practical trading pattern is bulk: mid-grade and better raw copies move in lots or as fill-ins, while low-grade examples carry little premium over reading-copy pricing. Certification rarely makes economic sense against grading fees, which means a top-grade slab trades on the scarcity of anyone bothering to submit the book rather than on underlying demand. Dealers should treat this as inventory depth for a collected series rather than a standalone offering.
