Cover is bagged and displays sharp, well-defined corners and clean, unblunted edges with no visible chipping or tears. Colors appear bright with no fading, and no creases or spine stress lines are visible in the photo. Slight glare on the protective sleeve limits full assessment of surface gloss; interior pages and back cover were not examined.

// Archive commentary
Thor #42 falls in the middle of the Dan Jurgens run on the 1998 relaunch, scripted by Jurgens with pencils by Stuart Immonen and inks by Scott Koblish. It belongs to the "Taking Charge" sequence that follows the death of Odin, with the thunder god seeking out Orikal in hope that something of the Allfather survives somewhere in creation while his mortal identity, paramedic Jake Olson, is left in danger. Supporting players include Balder, Sif, Volstagg, and Christine Collins, whose body the Enchantress had commandeered earlier in the run. The issue advances the arc that leads Thor to accept the Asgardian throne, but it introduces no character of consequence and carries no first appearance, origin, or death that collectors track.
