Cover shows overall even wear consistent with a mid-grade Silver Age book: mild yellowing/toning to the paper stock, some minor surface wear at the top edge, and slight corner softness at the upper right. No major tears, missing pieces, or color breaks are visible, and the spine appears intact without heavy stress lines from this angle, though it's in a protective sleeve which limits full assessment. Interior pages and back cover were not visible and were not assessed.

Tales to Astonish #83 arrived in September 1965 during the title's run as a shared home for the Incredible Hulk and Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner, following the retirement of the Giant-Man feature. Marvel used these anthology-format titles to keep secondary characters visible on newsstands while their solo prospects were tested, and by this point in the run both features had settled into a steady Stan Lee-scripted rhythm with art handled by the era's dependable Marvel journeymen. The issue is a representative example of mid-1960s Marvel serialized storytelling rather than a landmark single issue, with no first appearance, origin, or death recognized in standard price guides.
Market activity reflects that status: certified sales are plentiful across the grade spectrum, with a large census population and a smooth, gradually rising price curve typical of a well-collected but non-key issue. Values stay modest through the mid grades before climbing sharply only at the top of the census, where high-grade survivors are scarce relative to demand from Hulk and Sub-Mariner completists building out full Silver Age runs. The jump to four figures at the top grade reflects rarity of pristine surviving copies rather than any landmark content, a pattern common across long-running anthology titles from this period.
This is a book collected primarily by run-builders and Bronze-adjacent Silver Age Marvel enthusiasts rather than key-issue speculators, and it trades accordingly: readily available and inexpensive in low and mid grade, with value concentrated almost entirely in the handful of top-census copies. Dealers should expect steady but unspectacular turnover in raw grades, with real premium interest reserved for graded 9.6 and 9.8 examples where population reports show genuine scarcity.
