// Condition analysis
Cover shows moderate wear consistent with a mid-grade Silver Age book: mild surface gloss loss and light edge wear along the top and right border, a soft crease near the upper right corner, and slight discoloration/toning at the spine. The spine shows minor stress but no major color break ticks visible in this photo, and corners appear only lightly blunted rather than rounded. The book is in a protective sleeve which adds some glare, and the back cover and interior pages were not assessed.

Tales to Astonish #46 (Marvel, August 1963) arrived during the anthology title's transition from Ant-Man to the taller, more dynamic Giant-Man, and this issue is best remembered for introducing redesigned costumes for both Giant-Man and the Wasp. Stan Lee scripted the story with pencils by Don Heck, and the cover was rendered by Jack Kirby, whose bold figure work helped define the visual identity of Marvel's early shrinking-and-growing hero at a moment when the line was still finding its footing against the more popular Fantastic Four and Spider-Man titles. As one of the earlier costume-change issues in the Marvel Universe, it holds a small but durable place in the mythology of the Ant-Man/Giant-Man corner of continuity.
Market data shows a well-populated CGC census across the mid grades, with steady sales activity from grade 2.0 through 9.2 and pricing that climbs sharply above 8.0, reflecting the scarcity of high-grade Silver Age survivors relative to demand. Values remain modest through the low and mid grades, consistent with a costume-change issue rather than a first appearance, but the curve steepens meaningfully at 9.0 and above, where population thins dramatically and buyers compete for a handful of top copies. The complete absence of any 9.8 on the census, despite 207 total graded copies, underscores how difficult this title is to find in true gem condition.
The book appeals primarily to Ant-Man/Giant-Man and Wasp completists, Silver Age Marvel run-builders, and Kirby cover collectors rather than speculators chasing a marquee first appearance. Lower and mid-grade copies trade as affordable pieces of a broader Tales to Astonish run and see consistent but unspectacular turnover. High-grade certified copies, by contrast, are scarce enough that any 9.4 or better commands outsized attention when it surfaces, and a theoretical 9.8 would likely draw a premium well beyond the documented top of the census given the near-total absence of pristine survivors.
