This is the key Charlton issue introducing Captain Atom; front cover shows heavy handling wear consistent with a well-read Golden/Silver Age book. Visible defects include multiple spine stress lines and a small chip near the top spine edge, rounded and worn corners (especially the bottom right), a diagonal crease running through the lower cover art, and minor edge chipping along the right border. There is noticeable surface rubbing/color loss along the top edge and staple area, with the staples showing some rust bloom. Interior pages and back cover were not visible in this photo and were not assessed.

Space Adventures #33 introduces Captain Atom, the atomic-age hero created by writer Joe Gill and artist Steve Ditko, marking one of Charlton's most consequential contributions to the Silver Age. Published in early 1960, it predates Ditko's landmark Marvel work and stands as an important early showcase of his design sensibility, with the character's origin tied directly to Cold War anxieties around nuclear technology and the space race. Captain Atom would go on to anchor Charlton's Action Heroes line, later be acquired by DC, and serve as a partial inspiration for the character Doctor Manhattan, giving this debut lasting significance well beyond its original publisher.
