Book is sealed in a protective sleeve with an NM/M grader's sticker affixed to the cover; the visible surface shows sharp corners, strong color, and no creases, spine stress, or edge wear apparent through the plastic. Slight glare from the sleeve and the sticker itself obscure a small portion of the cover art, and interior/back cover could not be assessed. Given the pre-existing NM/M grader assessment and no visible defects, a high near-mint grade is supported, though independent verification of interior condition is not possible from this photo.

Launched under Marvel's Epic imprint in late 1993, Sachs & Violens paired writer Peter David with artist George Pérez on a creator-owned, adults-oriented crime thriller about fashion photographer J.J. Sachs and Ernie Violens, a hard-edged partner drawn into her pursuit of a snuff-film ring. The first issue carries an embossed foil cover and opens a four-issue miniseries that stands apart from Pérez's superhero output: the pages emphasize street-level violence, urban settings and character acting rather than team spectacle, and the property remained with its creators, later resurfacing in a collected edition and in Pérez's own Crimson Plague-era self-published orbit. It marks the first appearance of both leads and is one of the few sustained David-Pérez collaborations.

Market behavior reflects a short, late-Epic miniseries printed into a saturated distribution period. Raw copies move most often as complete four-issue runs rather than as single issues, and dealer inventory at national retailers remains readily available, which caps upside in the middle grades. Demand comes almost entirely from Pérez completists and Peter David readers rather than from speculators; the modest firming seen across Pérez's bibliography since 2022 has lifted interest in his creator-owned work, but on this title the effect shows up mainly in high grade, where the embossed foil cover produces edge and corner wear that thins the top of the census and makes certified copies scarce relative to how common the book is overall.

Buyers are collectors assembling Pérez runs, Epic imprint completists, and the small group of registry-minded collectors who chase certified copies of low-population 1990s Marvel foil books. Across grades the spread is compressed: mid-grade and high-grade raw copies trade at nearly the same modest level, and virtually all of the value sits in a graded high-end copy where certification, not the book itself, carries the premium. Low-grade copies are essentially reading material and are most efficiently sold within the complete set. Sellers with sharp, well-centered raw copies are generally better served submitting than listing, given how thin certified supply is.
