Classic Steranko psychedelic cover shows moderate handling wear: light corner blunting at top right and bottom left, a few small spine stress ticks visible along the left edge, and slight surface scuffing/soiling in the tan background areas. There is minor waviness to the cover stock and a faint crease near the upper right corner, but no major tears, creases through artwork, or color breaks are evident. Launched in 1968 to spin Sgt. Fury's modern-day super-spy persona into his own title, Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. carried forward the sleek, cinematic espionage tone that Jim Steranko had pioneered in the character's Strange Tales run. Issue five sits in the early stretch of that first volume, a period defined by mod fashion, Cold War gadgetry, and the visual experimentation Marvel was willing to indulge on the flagship spy book. It captures the series while it still traded on the Steranko-era aesthetic, with the eyepatched colonel squaring off against the shadowy operations of Hydra and its offshoots.
