Marvel Tales #76, cover-dated February 1977, is part of Marvel's long-running reprint line that recycled classic Amazing Spider-Man stories for a newsstand audience unable to find the increasingly scarce and pricier original issues. This installment reprints a Stan Lee-scripted, John Romita-illustrated tale from the late-1960s Amazing Spider-Man run, featuring the supporting cast of Gwen Stacy, her uncle Arthur Stacy, and Daily Bugle city editor Robbie Robertson alongside the wall-crawler. As with most entries in the Marvel Tales reprint series, the issue carries no first appearances or other landmark content of its own; its interest rests entirely on the enduring appeal of the Lee/Romita Spider-Man era it preserves in an inexpensive, accessible format.
Certified population is thin, with only 15 CGC Universal copies recorded and just two sales generating a usable FMV, both at the 9.4 grade point near $42. No submissions have reached 9.8, and higher-grade activity (9.6 and above) shows census presence but no completed sales, leaving the top of the market thinly charted. This scarcity of certified high-grade transactions, combined with the title's status as a reprint rather than a key issue, keeps demand modest and largely confined to Spider-Man completists building out the Marvel Tales reprint run or seeking an affordable way to own the Lee/Romita story in slabbed form.
The book trades as a low-cost reprint throughout most of the grading spectrum, with raw low- and mid-grade copies moving cheaply through dealer bins and online marketplaces to casual buyers and run-builders. Interest sharpens only at the top of the condition scale, where the small certified population and absence of a 9.8 create room for a modest premium among condition-census chasers, though the overall ceiling remains well below that of the original Silver Age issue it reprints.
