// Condition analysis
Cover shows generally good gloss with bright, unmuted colors, but there is noticeable wear at the top and bottom of the spine with slight whitening, mild corner blunting at the top corners, and a faint horizontal crease across the mid-right area of the cover. The book is in a protective sleeve which obscures fine edge detail. No major tears, stains, or writing are visible on the front. Interior and back cover were not assessed.

// Archive commentary
Marvel Tales #56 belongs to Marvel's long-running reprint anthology that, throughout the 1960s and 1970s, recycled early Amazing Spider-Man stories for a new generation of readers at a lower cover price than the original issues. By this point in the series' run the book was reproducing Spider-Man's mid-1960s adventures, offering fans a way to read foundational Lee-Romita era material without chasing increasingly expensive back issues of the flagship title. The cover, in the house style of the period, presents Spider-Man in dynamic action but does not constitute original artwork of note, nor does the issue contain any first appearance, origin story, or other event typically associated with key-issue status.
The market for this title reflects its nature as a value-priced reprint vehicle rather than a foundational Marvel book: certified population remains extremely small, with only a handful of universal copies graded and just a few recorded sales clustered at the high end of the grading scale. Demand is driven almost entirely by Spider-Man completists building out full runs of Marvel Tales, and by grading enthusiasts pursuing top-census copies of an otherwise overlooked title, rather than by story significance or historical importance.
This is a book that trades modestly across the grading spectrum, with raw copies in low and mid grades changing hands as inexpensive filler for Bronze Age or Spider-Man-themed collections. High-grade certified examples command outsized premiums relative to their content purely due to scarcity of submission, appealing to census-chasers and completists rather than investors seeking blue-chip appreciation. Collectors should approach this issue as a low-cost supplementary piece rather than a centerpiece acquisition.
