Cover shows sharp corners and clean, glossy surface with strong color and no visible creases or spine stress on this front view. No barcode is present in this photo (likely on back cover, not assessable), so newsstand/direct status cannot be determined from this image alone. Minor handling wear cannot be ruled out at photo resolution; interior and back cover were not assessed.

Marvel Tales #248 is a late entry in Marvel's long-running reprint anthology title, which spent decades recycling earlier Amazing Spider-Man stories for a new generation of readers at a lower cover price than the flagship book. By 1991 the series had been running the reprint format for well over a decade, cycling through Spider-Man's Silver and Bronze Age adventures roughly a hundred issues behind their original publication. The cover art on these later issues was typically adapted or redrawn from the original Amazing Spider-Man cover being reprinted inside, rather than commissioned as new work, and creator credits for the interior material point back to Marvel's earlier Spider-Man creative teams rather than any original 1991 talent.
As a reprint title with no new story content, Marvel Tales #248 carries none of the first-appearance or landmark-moment value that drives demand for the issues it was reprinting. It exists in the marketplace primarily as inexpensive filler for Spider-Man reading collections and long-box completionists, and the absence of a published fair-market value reflects that reality: the book trades at or barely above its original cover price in raw form. Whatever modest premium exists at the high end of the grading spectrum is a function of the difficulty of finding late Copper Age newsstand comics preserved in pristine, unhandled condition, not any inherent story or historical importance.
This is a book for Spider-Man completists filling out a run of Marvel Tales, or for buyers assembling inexpensive reading copies of vintage Spider-Man stories without paying original-issue premiums. Raw copies in any presentable condition are widely available and inexpensive, and demand does not meaningfully differentiate between low and mid grade for this title. Only a graded 9.8 commands a real premium, and that premium is driven by the scarcity of top-census copies of a low-survival-interest title rather than by collector demand for the issue's content.
