// Archive commentary
Marvel Presents #5 falls within the celebrated run (issues #3-12) that gave the original 31st-century Guardians of the Galaxy their first sustained ongoing showcase after their scattered earlier appearances. Scripted by Steve Gerber with art by Al Milgrom, the series developed Vance Astro, Charlie-27, Martinex, Yondu and the enigmatic Starhawk into a cohesive team facing the aftermath of the Badoon occupation of the solar system. While the headline first appearances of the arc landed in the preceding issues, this chapter is part of the connective tissue that built the team mythology later revived and reinterpreted for a much wider audience.
