The Invincible Iron Man #2 followed the character's transition into his own ongoing title after his Tales of Suspense run, with Archie Goodwin scripting and Johnny Craig handling full art duties, including the cover. This issue introduced Janice Cord and her father Drexel Cord, along with the villain known as the Demolisher, expanding the supporting cast during a formative stretch of the series. Craig's clean, moody art style, honed at EC Comics a decade earlier, gave the book a distinct visual identity apart from the Kirby-Colan aesthetic more commonly associated with the character's early Silver Age appearances.
Market data shows a steep value curve typical of Silver Age Marvel keys with large surviving census populations: prices remain modest through mid grades before climbing sharply at the 9.4 threshold and beyond, with 9.8 copies commanding a substantial premium over 9.6 and lower. With over 1,850 certified copies, the book is well represented across the grading spectrum, keeping raw and mid-grade values accessible while top-census slabs draw strong competition. Demand is driven primarily by Iron Man character collectors and Bronze/Silver Age completists rather than any single first appearance, since neither Cord nor the Demolisher achieved lasting significance in the wider Marvel Universe.
This issue trades as a solid, affordable entry point for collectors building an Iron Man solo-title run, with raw copies in low and mid grades widely available at modest cost. High-grade census copies, particularly those reaching 9.6 and 9.8, see disproportionate demand from registry collectors chasing top-of-census rankings, reflected in the sharp premium at the top of the FMV table. Overall the book functions as a steady, if unspectacular, presence in the Silver Age Marvel market, valued more for its historical placement early in Iron Man's own title than for any landmark first appearance.
