Cover shows strong gloss and bright colors with sharp corners overall; slight edge wear is visible at the bottom right corner and a faint diagonal crease/bend near the top right edge of the cover. Godzilla #17 arrived late in Marvel's short-lived license run pitting the King of the Monsters against the company's superhero-adjacent supporting cast. Written by Doug Moench with pencils by Herb Trimpe and inks by Bob Layton and Dan Green, the issue pits Godzilla against Red Ronin, the towering robot built by S.H.I.E.L.D. and Dr. Takiguchi, with series regulars Dum Dum Dugan, Gabriel Jones, and Jimmy Woo rounding out the human cast, and a cameo from Hank Pym tying the book into the broader Marvel Universe. The series has always traded on novelty rather than continuity importance, but this issue is a fan-favorite for the scale of its robot-versus-kaiju battle.

Market data reflects a common, plentiful Bronze Age title: certified population is substantial relative to demand, and fair market value falls off steeply below the 9.6-9.8 tier, where a handful of high-grade sales command a real premium over mid-grade copies. Below 9.4 there is little transactional data at all, indicating that raw copies in low and mid grades move mostly through bulk back-issue channels rather than individual tracked sales. Demand is driven almost entirely by Godzilla and kaiju collectors along with completists of the Trimpe/Moench Marvel Godzilla run, rather than by any first appearance or landmark creative event.

This is a book bought for its subject matter and its striking Trimpe cover rather than for investment-grade key status. High-grade CGC 9.6-9.8 copies will continue to command outsized prices relative to the rest of the run given their scarcity on census, while raw copies in low and mid grades remain inexpensive and readily available to series collectors and Godzilla completists filling out a run rather than chasing a single grail issue.
