Fantastic Four #339 (Marvel, April 1990) falls within Walter Simonson's celebrated run as writer and artist on the title, a stretch of the series widely regarded for its bold visual storytelling and reinvention of longstanding Marvel continuity, including the political upheaval in Latveria and the ongoing saga of Doctor Doom's legacy. This issue continues that thread, with the team entangled in the fallout of Doom's disputed throne, a plotline Simonson used to explore both action and court intrigue in equal measure. While not a first appearance or origin issue, the book is representative of a high point in the character's Copper Age publication history, valued by readers who collect the Simonson era as a complete run rather than for any single landmark moment.
Market data shows a typical Copper Age distribution curve: values remain modest through the mid grades, with FMV climbing only gradually from 9.0 to 9.6, then spiking sharply at 9.8, where census population thins and no copies exist above that grade. This pattern reflects a book that was widely bagged and boarded at the time of release, leaving ample high-grade raw and mid-tier certified supply, while true gem copies remain scarce enough to command a real premium. Demand is driven almost entirely by Simonson-run completists and Fantastic Four series collectors rather than speculative key-issue buyers.
This is a book that trades as a run-filler rather than a standalone investment: low and mid raw grades move slowly and cheaply through back-issue bins and online bulk lots, while CGC 9.8 slabs occupy a small, dedicated niche among graded-set builders chasing census-topping copies. Collectors assembling a complete Simonson Fantastic Four run, or general Copper Age Marvel accumulators, represent the steadiest source of demand across all grades.
