Fantastic Four #16 (July 1964) continues the Lee-Kirby run at the height of its Silver Age momentum, sending the team into a shrunken microcosm to battle Doctor Doom in "The Micro-World of Doctor Doom!" The issue arrives amid the title's foundational stretch of world-building, following closely on the heels of the Inhumans, Galactus, and Watcher introductions from surrounding issues, and it showcases Kirby's expanding visual imagination for scale-shifting sci-fi concepts that would recur throughout his Marvel career. Doctor Doom's appearance here reinforces his standing as the FF's defining antagonist, already well established as one of the most enduring villains in the Marvel pantheon.
Market demand for FF #16 is driven primarily by the Lee-Kirby creative pedigree and Doctor Doom's presence rather than any first appearance, keeping it firmly in the category of a strong mid-run Silver Age issue rather than a certified key. The FMV curve shows the expected non-linear acceleration typical of desirable 1960s Marvel material: modest, steady pricing through the mid grades gives way to a sharp premium at 9.4 and above, with the sole 9.6 commanding roughly 3.5x the 9.4 price. This shape reflects the scarcity of pristine surviving copies of a 60-year-old newsstand comic and the competitive pursuit of top-census examples by high-end Silver Age collectors and investors.
Collecting activity for this issue spans the full spectrum: budget-minded readers and run-builders sustain a steady market in the lower and mid grades, where the book trades as an affordable, characterful piece of early FF continuity, while a much smaller pool of condition-census collectors compete intensely for the handful of copies above 9.0. With no 9.8 currently certified, any future submission that achieves that grade would likely set a new high-water mark, and in the interim the 9.6 population anchors expectations for what a top-tier copy commands.
