Conan the Barbarian Volume 2, Issue #1 marked Marvel's mid-1990s attempt to revive the Cimmerian's adventures under a new creative direction, with pencils by Claudio Castellini, inks by Lewis LaRosa and Mark Farmer, and colors by John Kalisz. The book carries no first appearances of lasting significance; Conan himself was already a long-established Marvel property dating to 1970, and Vessila is a series-specific supporting character without broader recognition. The issue is best understood as a relaunch number one rather than a foundational key, produced during a period when the direct market was saturated with number-one issues from every publisher.

Market activity reflects that context. Certified sales are sparse across all grades, with only a handful of transactions recorded even at the top of the census, and no verified sales below 8.5. Demand is driven almost entirely by Conan completists and CGC registry builders chasing the handful of 9.8 copies, rather than by any speculative or historical premium. The pricing curve is typical of a modern low-key book: values stay flat and low through mid and low grades, then rise sharply only at the gem-mint tier where supply is genuinely scarce.

This is a book for series completists and registry-focused collectors rather than generalist key-issue buyers. Raw copies in low and mid grade trade for little more than nominal value and see limited turnover, while CGC 9.8 slabs command a real premium purely on condition scarcity rather than content. Collectors assembling a full run of Conan Volume 2 or chasing a high-grade registry set are the primary market; casual buyers have little incentive to seek this issue out specifically.
