Cover shows strong gloss and vibrant color with sharp corners and no visible creases or spine stress lines. Edges appear clean with no chips or tears, and the book is protected in a plastic sleeve which may be masking minor wear. Interior and back cover were not assessed, so grade is based solely on the visible front cover surface.

Captain America #422 (December 1993, Marvel Comics) arrived during the long tenure of writer Mark Gruenwald, who scripted the title continuously from 1985 through the mid-1990s and shaped much of Cap's modern mythology. By this point in the run the art chores had settled with penciler Rik Levins, a mainstay of the title's early-90s issues, working alongside Marvel's regular inking and coloring teams of the period. This issue falls in the stretch of stories following the character's ordeals in "The Bloodstone Hunt" and "Streets of Poison," a period when Gruenwald was steadily building toward the more consequential "Captain America: No More" arc that would arrive a few issues later.
As a mid-run issue from a long, continuously published Marvel Silver-to-Modern Age series, #422 carries no first appearance, death, or landmark creative milestone, and it was never treated as a spotlight issue by price guides or the secondary market. Direct-market copies from this era were printed in significant quantities, and the book has traded at or near cover price for most of its collecting life, with demand driven almost entirely by completists filling out Gruenwald's run or Captain America series collectors rather than speculators.
This is a reader's and completist's book rather than an investment piece. Raw copies move cheaply and steadily through back-issue bins and online lots aimed at collectors assembling a full run of the Gruenwald Captain America years; graded submissions are uncommon and typically undertaken by those pursuing a complete high-grade run rather than by buyers chasing this single issue. Expect it to remain a modestly priced, easily sourced addition to any Captain America long box.
