Graded at 4.0 (VG) on 2026-10-22, from new photos taken out of the sleeve: front, back, interior page and spine. Bright, fairly glossy cover. Colour flaking along the bottom edge below the centre panel. Corners blunted, lower-left rounded. Light wear and soiling on the square spine. Back cover soiled with light foxing and a red ink rub near the spine, light tan pages.

Batman #193 arrived in August 1967 during the "New Look" period that followed Julius Schwartz's 1964 retooling of the Dark Knight titles, an era defined by the yellow oval bat-emblem, tighter plotting, and a deliberate move away from the sprawling science-fiction excesses of the prior decade. The issue is representative of the era's house style rather than a landmark chapter in Batman's publishing history: there is no first appearance, origin revision, or death embedded in its pages, and it has not accrued the kind of guide-cited status attached to genuine Silver Age Batman keys. The market inflects sharply above that point: 9.4 jumps to $900, 9.6 to $2,350, and the four known 9.8s have traded around $5,250, a curve typical of a common-to-mid-tier Silver Age comic where raw survivors are plentiful but true high-grade examples are scarce relative to demand from Batman completists and Silver Age type-set collectors. Recent sales activity is thin at the very top, consistent with a book that trades steadily but without the volume or headline sales of an established key.

This is a collector's book for Silver Age Batman run-builders and CGC registry participants chasing condition-census rarity rather than speculative key-issue buyers. Lower and mid-grade raw copies move in the range of common back-issue-bin Silver Age material and are readily available given the size of the census; the real value inflection happens only at the top of the grading scale, where scarcity of true 9.6-9.8 survivors, not narrative significance, drives price. Expect steady, unspectacular demand across grades with periodic strong results whenever a fresh high-grade copy surfaces.
