Balder the Brave was a four-issue limited series spun directly out of Walt Simonson's celebrated run on Thor, giving Odin's most steadfast warrior his first solo showcase. Simonson wrote and provided covers while Sal Buscema handled interior art, and the second issue, "Balder the Betrayed!", advances the story of Balder's uneasy alliance with the Norn queen Karnilla against the forces of Hela, threading into the events of Thor #360-362. It is a genuine extension of one of the strongest creative periods in Marvel's Asgardian titles, but it introduces no new character of consequence and carries no origin or death of note.

Market behavior matches that profile. Raw copies circulate freely in dealer bins, dollar boxes, and as part of complete four-issue sets, and the series is common enough in high grade that unslabbed near-mint copies rarely command more than a modest multiple of cover price. Certified activity is sparse and concentrated in the first issue, which absorbs most of the collector attention thanks to its first-issue status and Simonson association; later issues appear on the census only occasionally, meaning graded results are driven as much by scarcity of listings as by demand. Interest ticks upward when Asgardian characters return to prominence on screen, though the lift is measurable mainly in run-collector volume rather than price.

Buyers are principally Simonson completists, Thor run collectors filling the mid-1980s Asgard arc, and set builders who prefer to acquire all four issues at once. Across the grade spectrum the spread is narrow: low-grade copies are effectively reading material, mid-grade copies trade at bin pricing, and only a top-census slab separates itself, and then largely because so few exist rather than because the issue is sought after individually. Dealers are generally better served offering the complete series as a unit than pricing this issue in isolation.
