Cover shows sharp corners and clean edges with strong original gloss under the protective sleeve; no visible spine stress, ticks, or color breaking along the spine. Colors remain vibrant with no noticeable fading or staining, and there is no visible creasing on the front surface. Minor handling wear can't be ruled out due to the plastic sleeve reflections slightly obscuring fine detail, and the back cover and interior pages were not assessed.

Avengers West Coast #65, cover-dated December 1990, opens the four-part "Whatsoever a Man Soweth" storyline, better known to readers of the run as "The Reaper and the Robot." Roy and Dann Thomas script, with pencils by Paul Ryan and inks by Danny Bulanadi over Ryan's cover. The issue brings the Grim Reaper back from the dead in a sequence that costs Nekra her life, sets Ultron 13 moving against the team in the background, and places Simon Williams and Wanda Maximoff at the center of a family conflict that would run through the following three issues. The roster on hand is the familiar early-nineties West Coast lineup: Wonder Man, Hawkeye, U.S. Agent, Quicksilver, Hank Pym and the Wasp, with the Vision appearing in flashback.

Market behavior here is typical of a well-distributed Copper Age Marvel team title. Print runs were large, unread copies remain plentiful in dealer stock and in eBay listings, and the issue has never developed independent key status, so raw copies across the grade spectrum trade close to bulk pricing regardless of how sharp they are. What modest attention the book does attract is character-driven: the Grim Reaper's media profile and the sustained collector interest in Wanda Maximoff and the Vision after the 2021 Disney+ series lifted several West Coast Avengers issues, most visibly the White Vision issues from the "Vision Quest" era. Those bumps landed on the recognized keys rather than on story-arc openers like this one, and the certified market for #65 is correspondingly shallow, with only scattered slabs in circulation.

Buyers fall into two camps. The first is the run collector filling the 48-102 stretch of the retitled series, who wants a clean, well-centered copy and buys on price rather than on grade certification. The second is the character specialist assembling Grim Reaper, Nekra, or Ultron appearance sets, and for that buyer the arc-opening status and Nekra's death give the issue a reason to exist beyond the run. Because raw supply is so deep, the spread between a beaten copy and a mid-grade copy is negligible; virtually all of the value in this book sits at the top of the scale, where a certified high-grade example is scarce enough on the census to command a premium out of proportion to the raw market. Submitting for grading only makes sense on a copy with realistic 9.8 potential.
