Avengers #47 is part of the third ongoing Avengers series published by Marvel Comics, released in December 2001 as part of the extended "Kang Dynasty" storyline that ran through the mid-#40s into the mid-#50s. The arc, plotted by Kurt Busiek, saw the time-traveling conqueror Kang the Conqueror seize control of Earth, forcing the Avengers into an underground resistance and eventual full-scale war. By this point in the series the team roster included stalwarts such as Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, the Vision, and Scarlet Witch, alongside newer additions like Warbird and Triathlon who had been introduced earlier in Busiek's run. The issue does not introduce any new characters or concepts of lasting significance to the Marvel Universe; it is a middle chapter in an ongoing epic rather than a jumping-on or landmark point.
As a mid-run installment of a lengthy crossover arc in an already well-collected series, this issue does not carry the kind of individual demand drivers that separate key issues from the rest of a run. There is no first appearance, no death of a major character, and no cover image that has become a standalone touchstone for collectors. Copies of this issue are plentiful thanks to strong original print runs typical of Avengers comics in the early 2000s direct market, and it has not developed any independent following as a stand-alone collectible outside of readers assembling the complete "Kang Dynasty" story in single-issue form.
This is a book collected primarily by readers completing the Kang Dynasty arc or the full Busiek/Perez-era Avengers run, rather than by investors or key-issue speculators. Raw copies move steadily but modestly through back-issue bins, online lots, and dollar boxes, reflecting its status as a common, easily replaced issue. Graded submissions are uncommon and largely driven by completists building a graded run of the series rather than by any inherent scarcity or milestone status; pricing at the top end reflects general Modern Age slab market conditions more than any particular demand for this specific issue.
