Cover shows good gloss with bright inks and no major color breaks visible; corners appear moderately sharp with slight softness at bottom corners. There is a small edge tick/wear along the left spine area and minor scuffing near the bottom edge. No visible tears, creases, or staining, though the book is in a protective sleeve which may obscure fine surface wear. Interior and back cover were not assessed.

Avengers #13 (Marvel, February 1965) introduces Count Luchino Nefaria, one of the team's more durable recurring adversaries, in a story titled "The Castle of Count Nefaria." Scripted by Stan Lee with interior art by Don Heck and a cover credited to Jack Kirby and Chic Stone, the issue arrives during the Lee/Heck run that defined the early Avengers' rogues gallery, adding a wealthy, politically connected criminal mastermind to a lineup that already included Kang, Baron Zemo, and the Masters of Evil.
Market data shows a large population of survivors across mid and high grades, with sales concentrated in the 6.0-9.4 range and pricing climbing sharply above 9.0 as certified copies thin out. The absence of any 9.8 sales or census population underscores how few copies of this issue exist in top preservation, and the jump from 9.4 to 9.6 FMV illustrates the premium collectors place on each incremental grade step near the top of the curve. Demand is driven primarily by Silver Age Avengers set-builders and character-first-appearance collectors, with Nefaria's later relevance (including modern MCU and comics adaptations) providing periodic secondary interest.
Low-grade reading copies remain accessible and trade steadily as affordable entries into the early Avengers run, while mid-grade raw copies serve type-set and run collectors assembling a complete Lee/Heck Avengers sequence. High-grade certified copies, particularly anything approaching 9.6 or better, are scarce enough that they typically surface only in major auctions or targeted want-list transactions, commanding outsized premiums relative to the rest of the curve.
