Cover shows moderate wear consistent with a mid-grade Bronze Age book: soft rounded corners, mild edge wear along the top and right border, and a vertical crease/bend visible near the spine. There is some minor surface rubbing and light color fading along the spine area, with no major tears or missing pieces visible. The book is in a protective sleeve, which limits full assessment of gloss and surface sheen; interior pages and back cover were not assessed.

Astonishing Tales #14 arrived in October 1972, part of the run that had by this point abandoned its original two-feature format (It, the Living Colossus paired with Ka-Zar) in favor of a single extended Ka-Zar adventure per issue. Lord of the Savage Land Kevin Plunder had been building toward a spinoff into his own solo title, and these later Astonishing Tales issues functioned as a proving ground for that jungle-adventure concept, pitting Ka-Zar against the assorted threats, lost civilizations, and prehistoric hazards of the Savage Land. The book sits in the working middle of a Bronze Age anthology-turned-solo series, one whose creative teams rotated through several notable Marvel writers and artists of the era without producing a first appearance or landmark story in this particular issue.
The issue's market profile matches its cataloging as bulk stock: no fair-market value is tracked for it, and it circulates as a common, inexpensive back-issue title rather than a book collectors actively chase. Demand is driven almost entirely by Ka-Zar completists assembling a run and by Bronze Age Marvel readers filling gaps in anthology-era titles rather than by any speculative or key-issue interest. Surviving copies are plentiful enough that pricing stays anchored near cover value across most grades.
This is a reader's or completist's book: appealing to those building a full run of Astonishing Tales or Ka-Zar's early appearances, but not a title that draws grading-service speculation or crossover investor attention. Raw copies in low and mid grades trade cheaply and are easy to source, while a high-grade slab commands a modest premium mainly because pristine Bronze Age copies of any unassigned title are scarcer than the reading-copy population might suggest. Collectors should expect it to behave as a stable, low-cost addition to a run rather than an appreciating asset.
