Action Comics #343 is a late-1966 entry in DC's flagship Superman anthology title, published during a period when the series paired lead Superman stories with rotating backup features. The issue reflects the house style of the era's Superman line under editor Mort Weisinger, with artwork attributed to the studio's regular Silver Age contributors. It is not associated with a first appearance, origin story, or other landmark event that price guides single out as a key issue, and it should be cataloged as a representative mid-run Silver Age Superman title rather than a spotlight book.
Market data shows a typical long-tail Silver Age curve: certified copies in mid-grade (4.0–6.0) trade in the $36–$55 range, while values escalate sharply above 9.0, culminating in a 9.8 FMV of $750, with recent sales trending higher still. This pattern is common for Bronze-adjacent Silver Age issues that are scarce in true Universal 9.8 but otherwise plentiful in mid and high grades — demand is concentrated among grade-chasers and Superman-title completists rather than character-first-appearance buyers.
This book trades primarily as a filler or run-builder in raw and low-certified grades, where pricing stays flat and demand is modest. The real activity is at the top of the census, where a handful of 9.8 copies command outsized premiums due to their rarity relative to the overall population. Collectors assembling complete Action Comics Silver Age runs, or specializing in Curt Swan cover art, form the primary buyer base; investment-driven buyers are more likely to target the 9.6–9.8 tier than mid-grade copies.
