Action Comics #298 (March 1963) arrived deep in editor Mort Weisinger's tightly controlled Superman line, a period defined by tidy done-in-one plots, recurring gimmicks (kryptonite variants, imaginary stories, secret identity close calls), and the polished, consistent house style associated with penciler Curt Swan. The issue is a representative example of the era's output rather than a landmark: no major first appearance, origin, or death is associated with this number, and it has not accrued the recognition price guides reserve for key issues.
Market data shows a typical long-run Silver Age demand curve: pricing stays compressed and modest through the mid grades, then accelerates sharply once a copy clears the low 9.0s, and becomes highly volatile at the top of the census where only a handful of copies exist. The steep gap between 9.4 and 9.6 pricing reflects the thinness of high-grade population for a fairly common back-issue title rather than any content-driven demand spike; this is a census-scarcity effect, common to unheralded issues from long-running Superman-family books of the period.
This is a book bought primarily by Superman-title completists and Silver Age run-builders rather than character or key-issue speculators. Raw copies in low and mid grade trade as inexpensive filler for long boxes and want-lists, while high-grade certified examples appeal to registry-set collectors chasing census-top status on an otherwise unheralded issue; pricing at that tier should be treated as thin and register-driven rather than broadly liquid.
