Marvel Tales #137 arrived from Atlas Comics in August 1955, part of the publisher's long-running anthology line that had shifted from science-fiction and crime into suspense and horror-adjacent material as the industry absorbed the newly formed Comics Code Authority. Like most Atlas anthology issues of the period, its interior lineup rotated through the studio's stable of jobbing writers and artists on short suspense and twist-ending stories, without a continuing cast of characters and without an origin, first appearance, or other event that price guides single out as historically pivotal. The title itself is a long-lived Atlas mainstay, but this particular issue is best understood as a representative mid-run entry rather than a recognized key.

The certified population is small, with only 23 copies recorded across the CGC Universal census and the top of that population capped at a single grade-9 copy that has not sold. Recorded sales cluster in the low-to-mid grades, with a grade-5 copy trading around the $130 mark and grade 6.5 to 7 copies bringing considerably more, reflecting how quickly value accelerates as buyers chase the handful of better copies of a scarce, largely uncollected Atlas anthology. Demand is driven less by character or creator recognition and more by genre collectors assembling 1950s Atlas suspense runs and by census-chasers targeting a title where high grades are genuinely hard to find.

Expect this issue to trade as a value-driven filler book in low and mid grades, moving primarily through general Golden Age lots and dealer stock rather than headline auctions. Because no 9.8 has ever been certified, a top-grade example would likely draw outsized attention and a significant premium from registry-focused buyers simply for being the best copy known, even though the book carries no key designation. Most transactions, however, will continue to involve modest raw and mid-grade copies purchased by Atlas-era completists rather than speculative buyers.
