Magician: Apprentice #4 is part of Marvel's 2006-2007 collaboration with Dabel Brothers Productions to adapt Raymond E. Feist's beloved fantasy novel, the opening chapter of the Riftwar Saga set in the world of Midkemia. Scripted from Feist's prose by Michael Avon Oeming and Bryan J.L. Glass, the issue carries a cover by Brett Booth and interior pencils by Ryan Stegman — notable as some of Stegman's earliest professional comics work, years before his high-profile Venom and King in Black runs. The story follows kitchen boys Pug and Tomas as the court of Crydee reckons with the wreckage of mysterious foreign invaders, advancing the buildup to the Riftwar.

Commercially this is a modern licensed adaptation aimed at Feist's prose readership rather than the speculator market, and it trades accordingly. Print runs were modest and the title never generated a recognized key, so raw copies move as inexpensive back issues through dealer inventory rather than through auction houses. The only real demand driver beyond Feist completists is the Ryan Stegman early-career interest, which lends a thin secondary pull to graded copies but has not translated into meaningful price escalation.

Buyers are chiefly Feist and Riftwar Saga fans assembling the run, plus a small number of collectors chasing Stegman's earliest credits. Raw copies are abundant and cheap across all grades, with little spread between a reading copy and a sharp near-mint example. Certified 9.8s are scarce simply because few have been submitted, which can support a premium out of proportion to underlying demand; that premium should be viewed as speculative and grade-scarcity-driven rather than a reflection of a hot book.
