Launched in October 1985 out of the well-received 1984 limited series, the ongoing West Coast Avengers gave Marvel a second franchise team operating from Los Angeles under Hawkeye's chairmanship, with Mockingbird, Tigra, Wonder Man, and the red-and-white-armored Iron Man of James Rhodes. This second issue continues Steve Englehart's opening arc with art by Al Milgrom and Joe Sinnott, as Ultron-12 assembles allies including Black Talon and the ionically powered Goliath, Man-Ape strikes, and Hawkeye seeks reinforcements from the Vision and the Scarlet Witch, whose own title had just relaunched. The issue also revisits Wonder Man's origin, part of Englehart's sustained effort to rehabilitate second-tier Avengers into leads.

Market demand for the issue is run-collector demand. The series has two genuine price drivers, the White Vision issues in the high forties, and interest in those spiked sharply with the 2021 Disney+ series before settling; the early issues never participated in that move beyond a brief halo effect. Copies circulate constantly in dollar boxes and dealer bulk lots, and certified examples are scarce chiefly because submission costs exceed the book's ceiling rather than because high-grade copies are rare. Newsstand distribution accounted for the large majority of the 1985 print run, so the designation adds no premium here.

Buyers are Avengers completists assembling the 1985-1994 run, Englehart and Milgrom readers, and Mockingbird and Wonder Man character collectors. Low- and mid-grade copies trade as inexpensive reading material, and the practical spread between a beaten copy and a clean mid-grade one is a matter of a couple of dollars. Value concentrates almost entirely at the top of the grade scale, where a census-level slab appeals to registry-set builders working the series in high grade; anything below that band is best acquired as part of a full-run purchase rather than issue by issue.
