Cover shows strong gloss and vibrant, unfaded color with sharp corners and no visible creases or spine stress ticks. Slight ripple/wave is visible in the plastic sleeve covering the book, but this appears to be sleeve reflection rather than a cover defect; no chipping, tears, or writing are visible on the front. Interior pages and back cover were not assessed, so the grade is based solely on the visible front surface.

West Coast Avengers #30, cover dated March 1988, comes from the stretch of the series Al Milgrom wrote and laid out himself, with finishes by Mike Machlan on both the interiors and the cover. The alien Sligs abduct the team and pit each member individually against the Examiner, a robot built to duplicate the roster's powers, a device that lets Milgrom run through the lineup in turn: Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Wonder Man, Tigra, Moon Knight, Hank Pym in his Doctor Pym phase, and Iron Man, with the Vision and the Scarlet Witch in support. The Examiner debuts here, and price-guide databases note the first appearance, but the character never became a fixture and the issue is best understood as a competent mid-run installment of Marvel's second Avengers title rather than a turning point in it.

Market behavior follows that assessment. The book was printed in quantity in both direct-market and newsstand form, survives in high grade in large numbers, and trades as fill-in inventory in dealer stock and online bins, where run collectors completing the 1985 series are the main buyers. Certified activity is minimal, with only isolated 9.8 sales on record, so the slab market is driven more by the cost of grading and shipping than by underlying scarcity or demand. The series does contain genuinely hot issues, chiefly the Vision Quest arc and the White Vision debut, and periodic screen-driven interest in the Scarlet Witch and Vision has lifted attention across the whole run, but that heat has not transferred to this number.

Collecting outlook is straightforward. Low-grade copies are reading-copy and set-filler material, mid-grade copies clear at similar money because supply is deep at every level below Near Mint, and only a pressed, well-centered high-grade example justifies certification, generally for a registry or run-completion buyer rather than a speculator. Sellers should expect the spread between a solid mid-grade raw copy and an entry-level unslabbed Near Mint copy to be narrow, with essentially all of the value concentrated at the top of the grading scale. Buyers assembling the series are better served acquiring this issue raw and reserving certification budget for the recognized keys in the run.
