No creases, tears, or color breaks are apparent in this photo, and the book is protected in a plastic sleeve which limits full edge inspection. Avengers West Coast #70, cover dated May 1991, opens the five-part "The Big One" by Roy and Dann Thomas, with pencils by Steven Butler, inks by Danny Bulanadi, color by Bob Sharen and a cover by Tom Morgan. Julia Carpenter's Spider-Woman is drawn into a confrontation at Newport Beach with operatives of Doctor Demonicus, who has used meteorite fragments to create a new super-powered strike force, and she brings the problem to a team then fielding Hawkeye, Iron Man, Wonder Man, Tigra, the Wasp, Doctor Pym and the Scarlet Witch. The issue marks the first appearance of the Pacific Overlords, including Jawbreaker and Kuroko, villains who returned in the 1992 annual and again in 1993 but never developed a following outside the title.

Market behavior here is that of a late Copper Age Marvel monthly printed in quantity for a saturated newsstand and direct market. Supply is deep at every grade, unread high-grade copies remain easy to source from original-owner runs, and certification is rare because grading fees exceed any plausible return. Demand comes chiefly from readers assembling complete Avengers West Coast runs and from collectors following Julia Carpenter or the Scarlet Witch through this period, interest that rose measurably around the 2021 WandaVision broadcast but concentrated on the earlier Vision and Wanda keys rather than on the Pacific Overlords arc.

Buyers for this book are run collectors, Roy Thomas completists and dealers filling storyline gaps, and it trades accordingly: as bulk-box or dollar-box merchandise in lower and middle grades, and at a modest premium only when presented in strict near-mint. Certified copies are thin enough on the census that a slab sells on scarcity of the holder rather than on demand for the issue, which makes the high-grade bracket the least stable of the three. Sellers generally do best keeping this issue with the surrounding #69-#74 arc, where a complete storyline group realizes more than the sum of individual singles; note also that the Mark Jeweler insert variant of this printing is a distinct and materially scarcer item.
