TALES TO ASTONISH #89

Cover shows a somewhat glossy but faded surface with visible sheen/glare from the protective sleeve; slight wear at corners with minor blunting visible on the bottom right. There appear to be light creases running through the lower portion of the cover, and the spine shows minor stress but no major cracking visible. Colors remain reasonably bright with no major color breaks noted, though the plastic sleeve obscures fine surface detail. Interior and back cover were not assessed.

Tales to Astonish #89 arrived in March 1967 as part of the dual-feature format that paired Sub-Mariner and the Hulk through the back half of the series' run. The Sub-Mariner segment, scripted by Stan Lee with art from Gene Colan, continued the undersea king's ongoing conflict with the militaristic Warlord Krang and his entanglements with Lady Dorma, a storyline thread that ran through much of the mid-1960s issues. The Hulk half, drawn by Marie Severin, kept pace with the character's transitional period between his monster-comic roots and the more fully realized antihero he would become in his own title the following year. Neither feature in this specific issue carries a recognized first appearance or landmark creative milestone, placing the book solidly within the collected run rather than among its key issues.
