Cover shows notable wear consistent with a mid-grade Silver Age book: visible spine stress lines and a small tear/chip at the top left spine edge, general surface wear and slight discoloration/toning across the cover, and minor edge wear along the borders. Colors remain fairly bright with good gloss retention for the era, and there's no major creasing through the central image, but the spine ticks and edge softness prevent a higher grade. The book is in a protective sleeve which causes some glare; interior pages and back cover were not assessed.

Strange Tales #111 arrived on newsstands in August 1963 as the direct follow-up to issue #110, the split anthology title where Stan Lee and Steve Ditko had just introduced Doctor Strange one month earlier. This issue carries the character's second outing, continuing the moody, unconventional visual style that would define the strip and eventually justify its own ongoing title. The companion Human Torch feature, drawn by Jack Kirby and inked by Dick Ayers, introduces the villain the Eel, giving the issue a secondary point of interest for Silver Age Marvel completists beyond the Ditko material.
The GoCollect grade curve shows a book with broad collector participation across the spectrum: mid-grade copies (4.0 to 6.0) trade in the low-to-mid hundreds, while high-grade copies show a pronounced acceleration, with 9.0 near $2,500 and 9.2 near $3,800. The absence of any FMV-supported sale at 9.4, 9.6, or 9.8, despite each grade having transacted, points to thin and inconsistent trading at the top of the census rather than a lack of demand, consistent with a book whose survivorship in true gem grades is scarce relative to its overall population of over 700 certified copies.
Demand for this issue is driven almost entirely by its Doctor Strange connection, positioning it as a secondary key that trails #110 in significance but still draws steady attention from Silver Age Marvel and horror-fantasy collectors building early Ditko or Doctor Strange runs. Lower and mid-grade copies move as accessible reading or filler pieces within longer Strange Tales runs, while high-grade certified copies, especially anything approaching the top of the census, are likely to command outsized premiums whenever they surface, given the scarcity of transactions at those levels.
