Fantastic Four #271 (October 1984) arrived during John Byrne's celebrated run as writer, penciler, and inker on the title, a stretch widely regarded as one of the most influential creative tenures in the book's history. This issue falls within the Terrax the Tamer arc, in which the former herald of Galactus confronts the team, continuing Byrne's reworking of Marvel's cosmic hierarchy that had begun with his redefinition of Galactus mythology earlier in the run. She-Hulk appears as the team's active fourth member, a status quo Byrne himself had engineered a year earlier when he replaced the Invisible Woman on the roster.
Market data shows a large certified population with the bulk of sales concentrated at the top of the grading scale, a pattern typical of Copper Age direct-market comics that were speculatively preserved in quantity at the time of release. The 9.8 tier sees active, steady trading, while sales thin out dramatically below 9.0 and are effectively absent in mid and low grades, reflecting both scarcity of submissions and minimal collector demand for well-worn examples of a non-key issue from this era.
This is a middle-of-the-run Byrne-era Fantastic Four issue rather than a storyline milestone, so it draws primarily from run-completists and Byrne-run specialists rather than key-issue speculators. High-grade slabs trade in a narrow, predictable band with modest but consistent turnover, while raw copies in lower grades see little organized market activity and are valued mainly as reading or filler copies within a longer run set.
