// Archive commentary
Iron Man #47 is part of the third ongoing Iron Man series, which launched in 1998 following the character's return from the "Heroes Reborn" event. By the time this issue shipped in late 2001, the title had moved past Kurt Busiek and Sean Chen's initial arcs and into a period of rotating creative teams as Marvel worked to find a consistent direction for Tony Stark heading into the 2000s. The book fits into a stretch of the run that is rarely singled out in retrospectives, offering an ordinary chapter in the character's ongoing adventures rather than a storyline with lasting significance.
The market for this issue reflects that ordinary status. It is not tracked with an assigned fair-market value in standard pricing references, which is itself an indicator that demand is minimal and copies trade close to cover price in raw form. There is no first appearance, death, or landmark creative statement attached to the issue that would give it independent collector interest beyond completists of the Iron Man vol. 3 run.
This is a book for series completists and long-box browsers rather than character-key collectors. Raw copies in any reading condition are inexpensive and easy to source, and even well-preserved graded copies see only modest premiums driven by the relative scarcity of high-grade submissions rather than genuine demand. It is best understood as a fill-in issue for a long run rather than a standalone collecting target.
